We are currently exploring as a church whether Art can be used as a means of engaging our community. We are very fortunate to have at least one talented Artist as a Church Member.
Mary Dewey is a sculptress and in many respects our ‘Artist in Residence’. Mary runs our Art Class. She has also developed the Joshua Gallery near her home where she runs Half Day Retreats. She exhibits her art in a local coffee shop and takes commissions.
The profile of art in the church is growing. We are looking for ways to use art in the cause of mission and are hoping that we can see a way forward to be able to release Mary’s talent as another avenue of ministry in the local area.
Art Class meets every Wednesday in the lower hall from 7:30pm and cost £3 per evening.
This is a teaching course that can guide you and help you to find out what you can do (even if you think it is nothing). You will learn how to develop your own work and ideas into a design that can be transferred into a variety of materials that would be suitable. This art class is suitable for all, those who are just beginning, those who would like to develop their skills, as well as for more experienced artists, in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
People are very friendly and welcoming, with the occasional outings to galleries, or for a meal.
Please email Mary Dewey via the Church Office for more information.

One of the identified needs within our local community is loneliness amongst those who live alone. Monday Club is an attempt to encourage those who feel isolated to come together and enjoy one another’s company.
Monday Club is held every Monday between 10:30 and 12pm in the Church Lounge, beginning with coffee, tea and biscuits and followed by activities at 11 am. They have a varied programme of discussion; quizzes; talks and concerts.
This is our Parent and Toddler Group.
Its aim is to support parents in the challenging task of parenting and encourage children to develop physically; relationally and spiritual through the sessions.
There is a varied programme of craft; song time and story time. There is a separate room for those Mums with young babies. The atmosphere is great and the parents and children learn from their interaction with one another.
Pram & Pushchair meets every Tuesday during school terms from 1:30 to 3 pm in the lower hall at Albany Road Baptist Church. Mothers (dads and carers too) can come and meet other parents over coffee. This initiative is affordable at 50p for the first child and £1 for 2 or more children and is a great way for young children to learn social skills.
